Constant current charging method and matters needing attention for electric vehicle charger

Constant current charging means that the battery is charged by piecewise constant current when charging, and the current is adjusted by charging device. The main feature of the charging method is that the charging method has a large degree of adaptability, and it can arbitrarily select and adjust the charging current. Therefore, the battery can be charged for various conditions (such as the initial charging of the new battery, the supplemental charging for the used battery and the desulphurization of the battery, etc.). It is especially suitable for the charging mode with small current and long time, charging the battery pack in series with batteries, and is beneficial to the charging of the battery with slower capacity recovery.


However, because the charging current at the beginning of the charging method is too small and the charging current is too large at the later stage of charging, the whole charging process has long time, more gas, high impact on the plate, high energy consumption and low efficiency (no more than 65%), and the whole charging process must be watched by a special person. Therefore, only the initial charging of the battery needs for long time and small current for sulfur removal.


The following matters should be paid attention to by the constant current charging method:

1. Because the constant current charging variant is piecewise constant current charging, charging current should be adjusted in time to avoid excessive current at the later stage of charging. Moreover, charging specifications must be strictly enforced, such as charging current size, charging time, timing of conversion current and selection of termination voltage.

2. The remaining capacity of each battery should be close, otherwise the charge current should be selected according to the battery with the smallest residual capacity in series battery, and then the battery should be removed when the small capacity battery is sufficient and then continue to charge the large capacity battery.

3. During the charging process, the single cell voltage of the battery is detected every 2 to 3h. If the voltage has reached 2.4V, it should be transferred to the second stage in time.

4. When the electrolyte temperature rises to 40℃ during the charging process, the charging current should be reduced by half. If it continues to rise to 45℃, the charge should be stopped and the charge can be recharged until the temperature is below 40 degrees℃.

5. The density of the charged battery electrolyte should be same.
